The New Moon is in Scorpio on 30th October 2016 at 5.38 pm GMT. This New Moon is conjunct Mercury and trine Neptune. Great for connecting in on a spiritual level. Venus is also conjunct Saturn and there’s a looser Mars square Uranus aspect, these are the more challenging aspects.
This month’s New Moon offers us an opportunity to delve into the shadows and darkness. Our instincts and intuitions are strong, but they may arise from fear and shadow. The places within ourselves that get activated because we are not aware of our allegiances, of what and where we are holding on, of what belongs to us, of what is more us, of what we identify with. This identification can and is exploited by powers that want to manipulate certain outcomes and it can be exploited by our own true selves. If we become more aware of these allegiances within ourselves, we cannot be so easily taken.
These allegiances are also like roles, which exist on all sides, within all perspectives and viewpoints. Most of the time, we only identify with one corner, and one role, we don’t see how we are both the victim and the power, we keep pulled into one dynamic and then marginalize off other aspects of our experience. We need to practice being on both sides, which is the difference between the awareness of one side or both sides.
This doesn’t negate standing up for one side strongly, there is still a big place for boundaries and knowing what we feel is right and expressing that – perhaps even more so now. But not from the same place, not from a one-sided place with no awareness of the other sides. Many versions of spirituality tend to disappear from conflict after having labeled it wrong, which only serves to perpetuate conflict. One thing one of my teachers says repeatedly is “if you don’t assume you are one sided, you will be one sided.” We are all one-sided, and there’s nothing wrong with that, unless we know the other side intimately also and can also stand for it.
This New Moon is more interested in how we can get underneath the polarities and roles, that’s Scorpio, it likes to delve deep and understand things intensely. Jupiter and the North Node in Libra wants to transform, even further, our ability to be in relationship. If we become more conscious of how we can, in fact, find ourselves on both sides of the argument, then we begin to develop more of an eldership and an ability to hold all polarities. Or, you can go to your mountaintop and disappear.
How interested are you in other people’s experience? How empathic are you? How guided are you by your heart, feelings and soul? You might be thinking one thing at a mental level, but what does your feeling within tell you? How aligned are your feelings and thoughts and how easy is it for you to listen to your feelings with your thoughts on your side.
We are in a time of shifts, it is the season for it, where the leaves are falling – we are naturally more orientated towards death. Scorpio is associated with Pluto, Lord of the Underground, and the bringer of death. Venus conjunct Saturn can mean death also. But the archetypal realm is very alive at this New Moon, our experience of life will be mirrored through different levels of experience right now, some of it very symbolic also.
With Mercury conjunct this New Moon, it’s a time for garnering wisdom and insight – of real metamorphoses. Although it might not be an easy journey under these energies. But we may need to drop our attachment to one side, see beyond our resistances and our need to be right and embrace seeing through different eyes. That is not the seeing of “well, everything happens for a reason” or “I need to step away from this as it’s not resonating with me”. No, everything is a part of us, and if we venture in, we will find where we also exist as that which our everyday self sees as “not me”.
And that moves us on to the real nature of Scorpio, which is its desire for merging, of intimacy. But that place of intimacy needn’t be with something outside of ourselves, it can be an intimacy with ourselves and our feelings. Scorpio, with its tendency towards obsession, seeks out allegiances from a place of caution, guardedness and testing, so it knows what and whom it can trust. We might feel this in our relationships over the next few days.
In true Scorpio style, if we can invite and be willing to embrace the darkness within and around us, rather than polarise from it, we are inviting in an alchemy or transmutation of that darkness. It’s not all or nothing, it’s not right or wrong, but Scorpio teaches us about the stages and cycles of death and transformation in our world. We perhaps just need to get more interested and curious about the darkness and the ‘other side’, rather than see it as ‘not us’ and stay guarded and fearful. Letting go of one thing, one idea, one side, just gives way to the other, in the same way as light invites the dark and vice versa (think yin yang). A bit like the Sabian symbol for this new moon at 8 degrees Scorpio “A calm lake bathed in moonlight; a quiet openness to higher inspiration”.
Neptune’s harmonious connection to this New Moon heightens our intuition and brings in a compassionate love, perhaps this is one of the keys to handling this New Moon Scorpio energy, with tenderness and forgiveness. With the Lunar Nodes also implicit in this energy, through the North Node opposite Neptune, then the answer is to widen our doors of perception, broaden our compassion and our capacity to forgive and move on.
