This New Moon is at the end of Libra at 26 degrees on 19th September 2017 at 19.12 GMT. This next lunar cycle emphasises both the completion of the Libra themes of relationship & the upcoming Scorpio cycle of rebirth. With the Moon quickly entering Scorpio for all weekend, the Sun & Mercury in Scorpio for the upcoming month, & Jupiter ingressing into Scorpio for the next year, this New Moon gives us foresight into the year ahead.
The Sun-Moon conjunction, which occurs at every New Moon, is opposite Uranus-Eris exact to three arc minutes. This is as precise as it gets. Uranus-Eris highlights digital technology & the epidemic disconnection from the body, as well as an enmeshment in a trippy digital reality.
Next, this New Moon is making a flowing aspect to centaur Pholus, which is like taking the cork off the bottle in respect to all that’s hidden & forbidden. The containment & suppression of sexual abuse, what with Harvey Weinstein & others, is being released. The blinkers are being removed.
Pholus is the small cause, big effect – the idea that a butterfly can create a hurricane. How smaller, meaningless decisions and events can escalate into a complex, wider deconstruction. We have a mistaken notion that individual & world mess requires an even bigger effort to resolve. It doesn’t.
The Divine meets you with a much greater force than that exerted. We believe we need to put in loads of effort or time to bring change, but it’s not quantity, it’s often more about the quality – the way we do it. Soft overcomes hard.
The centaurs, specifically Pholus, expose & release, sometimes through catastrophe means, to reveal an opening, an expansion of consciousness. They show us what needs to be transformed while still in the midst of a deep transition.
And we are still transitioning in all ways: from Libra energy to Scorpio. Libra is relational, it’s about balance, which is often at the expense of transformation. With Libra, we cultivate equanimity & composure with whatever life throws at us, & often a resistance to anything that might rock the balance.
Even our physiology is inherently resistant to change. This is known as homeostasis – how life itself makes small adjustments to maintain a stable equilibrium. It’s the interdependence of the web of life – how everything is intricately connected.
When we get a certain level of balance in our lives, we naturally want to maintain it. While small changes won’t upset the flow of life, large events can take us quickly into unpredictable terrain. This is why we need to learn to work with the small adjustments, then we might not need to attract the big upsetting events.
With Jupiter in Libra over the past year, we have developed a degree of Libra self-possession. Jupiter is now in Scorpio and the Sun enters Scorpio on 23rd October inviting us to lose this self-possession to deeper Scorpio processes. Halloween, otherwise known as the Day of the Dead, pays homage to the rebirth Scorpio archetype. In some ancient cultures, it’s the Day of the Goddess, promising the resurrection of the soul through the mysterious & sacred processes of death & sex. Like the Moon, this day embodies the truth that life & time is a cyclical process.
As we enter into the purification of Scorpio, we embark on a watery transformational process. It might seem like life is stuck or dead, but its just that we don’t notice life as a process. At this time of year, life force goes deep down & inside so life can be reborn. It’s a time for retreat, cleansing & catharsis – natural endings.
One way to harness the rebirthing within is to follow your own mini death processes each day. Be more conscious of the letting go, it will ensure your rebirth. Notice death within, around & through you with no fear. We have learned to fear & avoid death at all costs – it is the oldest fear in our collective consciousness. Western culture doesn’t teach us to honour & appreciate the sacred processes of death, & because of that, we don’t fully live our lives.
For all this, we need to be in our feelings. We need to be noticing. Scorpio is water, but as emotional as it is, it can become mentally fixated & as frozen water, it can lack the ability to fully ground in the realm of feelings.
This digital age promotes detaching from the feeling realm. Make a habit of regularly looking away from your screens to let your eyes adjust & focus to the horizon. It brings perspective and allows you to reconnect with yourself. For flow, we need to open & unclench our bodies and after just twenty minutes staring at a screen your muscles go into retracting, contracting patterns. Get moving, stretch, avoid the fixation.
The highest expression of life is to live life like a child, so let life move through you and allow yourself to die a little each day. Make space for the mysterious hidden Divine power to seed new life & patterns. It’s the path of the Goddess to be fluid in our whole selves, in all our diversity. It’s deeply democratic & the most unconditionally loving thing we can do. Don’t hold on so tight, release the fear.
Small attitude adjustments or seemingly insignificant changes in your daily routine can have huge consequences to how your life unfolds. This is why the small things matter often more than the large things. We can encourage a new pattern through ritual at this New Moon & actions taking at the beginning of a cycle can greatly influence their success & outcome. If we can tune into the fractal patterns & themes of our own life, we can see how they spiral us forwards, ensuring our continual regeneration.
Jupiter now in passionate Scorpio heralds a time to start embracing the big changes as well as the little ones. Think fire & water blended together. We are learning to now move beyond balance into the merger & fusion of things, exploring shared resources, sex, intimacy, the spiritual mysteries of rebirth, & cycles. We are going to get accustomed to the idea of surrender and change, a little more than the love of control.
The next few months in particular are times where we can purify the lower vibrations of our lower chakras so we can experience ourselves renewed and reborn. We can certainly expect to be awakened to our more primal power as women – our sexuality is our power.
For some it might also feel like a homecoming – Scorpio rules ancestors & this might be a time where they call us in their various ways for healing us and them. The veils separating this dimension & others draw thin during Scorpio transits. Dreams, memories, even skills from past lifetimes awaken. The ancestors are close, their callings cannot be ignored. The death of death is our rebirth.
