We have a Full Moon on 9 August 2025 at 08.55 BST in Aquarius. On the surface, it’s Aquarius—the collective, the visionary, the high-altitude witness that sees the whole system all at once.
But beneath all that is a deeply pressurised undercurrent as this lunation speaks of much tension. And the decisions it stirs feel less like contemplative choices and more like sharp edges we can’t avoid brushing against.
The Leo-Aquarius axis always raises timeless questions about individuality and group belonging, about personal sovereignty and collective alignment. Aquarius calls us to look beyond the self, while Leo asks us to burn brighter in our uniqueness.
But what makes this Full Moon extraordinary is the sheer number of planetary aspects converging around it. Mars, Saturn, Pluto, Neptune, Uranus, Mercury, Venus, and Jupiter are all activated. It brings a charge, and a signal, of what I cannot say. But the next two weeks will demand our full presence.
What’s interesting is that many planets are also retrograde—Saturn, Mercury, Pluto, Neptune, and Chiron—calling us to quietly reassess long-held structures, dreams, and identity stories.
Uranus, now freshly in Gemini since early July, begins a new multi-year cycle of re-patterning how we speak, connect, and think collectively. The air is charged not just with activity, but with reorientation. Uranus is a future orientated planet, and with Pluto in Aquarius (the sign that Uranus rules) the future is now properly in flux. It is a rewiring of perceptions and our electrical bodies.
At the heart of this lunation is Mars opposite Saturn on the in Libra-Aries axis. This perfects on 8 August but as Mars is slow moving, it saturates for days before and after. These two planets are rarely subtle when they collide. Mars is already somewhat compromised in Libra, being forced into a diplomatic stance. Saturn in Aries is hard to contain, since he pushes for action without the full story available. When these come into a tense stand off like they are now, it’s some intense internal compression.
You may feel the impulse to act, yet find your path blocked. You may feel called to hold firm or back, yet discover that standing still creates even more friction. The pressure doesn’t release either way. Frankly it asks something else entirely: deep discernment, timing, and a sort of reckoning that wants to see what strength you are truly embodying.
This is the first time Mars has made an exact aspect to Saturn since Saturn entered Aries. So for many, this will feel like we are embarking into new challenge territory. Look to the house Saturn now occupies in your chart. That part of your life is undergoing a three year restructuring. Mars now arrives to ignite that journey, and this is not the most comfortable of beginnings. However it will expose what needs your awareness, and demand attention, especially around how you relate to pressure, will, and boundaries.
Adding a further complication into this mix is the co-presence of Mars’s opposition to Neptune, exact on 9 August, and its trine to Pluto on 11 August. Neptune here clouds things. It makes it difficult to know the drivers behind our choices and actions.
We can feel moved toward things that feel purposeful, righteous, and might even believe are divinely guided. But at this time, it’s wiser to pause and ask: what’s really driving me? What’s my orientation? Where am I coming from?
Mars opposing Neptune-Saturn can bring a clash between desire and disillusionment. We chase something we believe in, or believed in (seeing as we are still in Mercury retrograde), only to find our motivation is soaked in fear, idealism, or inherited ideas we haven’t deeply questioned. What seems urgent may actually be a long-held pattern rising to the surface, cleverly disguised as clarity.
In relationships, this can look like trying to save someone who hasn’t asked, or holding emotional spaces that are not ours to hold. And yet—if we slow down as Mercury retrograde invites—we may find a deeper truth trying to break through the illusion. At the collective level, Mars-Saturn-Neptune pulls the veil off false icons, half-truths, and false higher moral ground. We need to watch for convincing ourselves of things, subtlely controlling and progress that is not really progress at all.
Check whether you’re following a deeper knowing—or fleeing something you haven’t yet faced. This is what Mercury retrograde supports us to do.
Pluto in Aquarius in trine to Mars brings depth, strategy, and power. When you layer Pluto’s influence over Neptune’s fog, you get hidden compulsions, shadow motivations, or a drive toward control. Whatever is bringing in the pressure this week, pause, as not everything is what it seems.
For many, this will also be the moment when something breaks—in the internal insistence to keep pushing forward against the nature of things. Investing energy hopelessly or trying to fix or achieve something that’s already shown its limits. It’s never easy but it brings you back to your own centre.
As all this unfolds or unravels, Mercury turns direct on 11 August in Leo, opposing Pluto in Aquarius. This adds another layer of intensity, particularly at the level of thought, speech, and perception. Pluto will bring forth obsessions, revelations, power dynamics, and uncomfortable truths. We are in the midst of a deep learning process.
This Mercury retrograde has felt very long, deep and very involved. A re-evaluation around creativity, self-expression, and how we centre ourselves in our own sovereignty. You may now see more clearly the ways you’ve been giving this away. And with Chiron also now retrograde in Aries, the wounds that have forged us may feel closer to the surface. With Jupiter in Cancer, we can have more access to our deeper truth.
As Mercury slows and pivots direct, he finally draws up what’s been moving below the surface. If you haven’t already, this is a time when we receive information the information we weren’t perhaps ready for. The intensity of some of this can make us go around in circles, hooking onto things, whatever it takes to not face where we are being asked to go, and what we have refused to see, forever.
With Mercury opposite Pluto, underneath that seeking quality for answers is usually something more primal—a need to restore power or safety—but it can be very deep, and a place not touched for lifetimes. It helps to notice where you go, and again, the drivers that are driving you forward. It’s all about getting to know the force within that drives things at this time.
Pluto is stripping the gloss off the Aquarian ideal, showing or perhaps at this stage it’s more of a warning, what happens when systems lose contact with soul. The dream of a collective, decentralised future is being slowly exposed for its shadow. The boredom of algorithmic conformity drawing you into old stuff. The fear driven subtle surveillance encroaching on our freedom. And the exile of anyone who doesn’t follow the script. And under this Full Moon, Pluto exposes the pretense.
Slowly the dawn is breaking through, but sometimes fate needs to step in to ensure there’s no other option that awakening. Illusions must break, patterns acknowledged, under this astrology it can be humbling, while at the same time freeing.
The Lunar and Solar Eclipse in September are the resolution points. So we need to see this time as part of a longer unfolding.
Amid all this, is a rare blessing. On 11 August, Venus and Jupiter conjoin in Cancer. It’s the most benefic, supportive alignment of the month. Together, they offer expansion, beauty, warmth, and connection. In Cancer, that support touches the places in us that long to be held and cared for. It’s a soothing balm for all our woes. For those who experienced the intensity of Mars’s retrograde in Cancer earlier this year, this moment may bring some healing or softening.
That said, this conjunction will not suspend depth of the reality we are needing to face; it just allows some tenderness, towards ourselves. This is a heart‑opening moment, especially if we honour what came before and the distance we have come, where we are truly at now and where we are being asked to go.
There’s no denying the domination of air and fire by the heavyweight planets. The tempo, the electrical charge, the mental stimulation, even expansion. But also the lack of grounding is the consequence. The gap between what’s true and real, and what is not aligned, is getting wider. So, if you find yourself trying to ‘solve’ your discomfort through debate, over expression, or retreat into the mind or processing, it may be worth asking: what does your body know or need here?
There is also something else emerging in the undercurrent of our consciousness. The energetic challenge now is not simply to endure tension. It is to locate yourself within it, see how you are meeting it. What is your orientation inside the pressure? Are you holding your ground, in your centre, in need of surrender, self-acceptance, are you avoiding a choice, gripping too tightly, or waiting for it to pass?
None of these are right or wrong. But the noticing, perhaps even naming, will reveal where you are, and this positioning is very grounding and relieving. Saturn in Aries does want to bring awareness to how we hold ourselves when pressure rises—it allows you to return to your place inside it—and from there, something opens. You remember who you are.
In the days after this Full Moon, we might notice that something inside stops resisting. Something comes through, the Mercury-Pluto opposition eases quite quickly, then on 11 August the Moon then trines Venus-Jupiter. There is love here. It is accessible despite it all. By 13th, Mars has edged out of its entanglement with Saturn-Neptune.
Saturn’s final return to Pisces on 1 September brings a final phase of review before it moves on for good. It revisits territory that’s already shown where your foundations need softening—or strengthening from within. This is the last sojourn through a spiritual reconstruction zone. Time to take stock.
But that is still to come. For now, at this Full Moon, we see that the decisions we make, have made—both internal and external—matter, and have consequences. They define the long path being walked. So stay with what is real and choose from that place. Let that guide you, even if the path is as narrow, or like a tightrope.
Full Moons are moments of culimation and realisation, but this one reaches beyond into the deepest structure of our lives. It shows us the horses flogged, the rosie glasses and the trees barked up. It casts its light on the internal structures we’re embedded into, even trapped in.
So, where Aquarius brings the whole system into view—the organisation, the engineering, the agreements. Leo brings us back to the visceral fire living inside. And so when you look around at the world you’re helping to maintain—through where you place your attention, what you speak or stay silent about, what you agree to—does it match the truth of your inner being?
If there’s a gap between what emerges and what’s on the inside, see what’s there. What emerges isn’t necessarily about choices in the way we might imagine—decisive, fixed, the highest frequency or most evolved. This is not about layering more on top of ourselves. And it’s far more subtle. It’s only about staying in contact with what’s present in you, as you notice and observe. This way invites a different kind of emergence, just honest contact with what moves through you.
Noticing the bias, the contraction, the pulls, the conflict, the tension—and letting your awareness remain close enough that something real begins to organise from within in response to it all. This way you’re no longer split from yourself in the moment, your judgment is discernment. That contact, that ongoing relationship with your own interior, is the deepest gesture of participation and expression of self-honesty. It is this that builds intimacy with Divine Presence, allowing it to take steady governance in how your life unfolds.
