The Moon is new in Capricorn on 17th January 2018 at 2.17 am GMT. This is the first new moon of the year and a perfect time to do my New Moon Ritual, if you haven’t already had the time.
Capricorn energy, which is plentiful in our current astrology, is all about grounding and bringing things into form. It’s the perfect time to seed your intentions for 2018. In focus are our aspirations, purpose and ambitions, especially in respect to vocation.
With Saturn now moving through Capricorn also, and a New Moon activating his homecoming, we can really make a commitment to working with these themes. With Eclipse season just around the corner, what you seed might have an even farther reach and impact than you’d expect.
At this New Moon, Mercury is still making a conjunction with Saturn, suggesting that we take a serious approach to plans and ambitions. But the pressure and heaviness of all this Saturn energy might force us into a space where we want to escape the reality and limitations, or just simply the hard work of it all.
In response, our fantasies and the internal world can be strong and perhaps even necessary to help us counterbalance the deep reality checks and outward action necessary – Saturn is associated with work. Just don’t let that escapist world take you too much into illusion and escapism.
See any desires to escape it all as a call for your imagination and creativity to take more reigns. For if we operate from a pure ‘work hard’ space, we can quickly feel hopeless and drained. It’s about a balance – engaging the internal world and the authority within and letting that be the engine for the external effort required.
The heavier and denser the energy we feel, the more the call for surrender and deepening to let our Higher Self take more command. Pessimism, hopelessness and a realism without any space for miracles or magic is not much fun so it’s best to not stay there for too long.
To make the most of Capricorn energy, we need to pick up responsibility, commitment, focus and planning. Venus conjunct the New Moon means getting serious, committed and picking up responsibility in Venus arenas such as relationships, resources, finances and pleasure deriving activities will work for us.
But it’s also about really journeying into our inner authority to bring that sense of focus, discipline, consistency and responsibility forward and expressed out.
It’s time to take responsibility for ourselves by going inside and seeing our own fears and any excessive worries from a realist position. This is one way in which we nurture and show kindness and compassion to ourselves. It might not feel very nurturing, but witnessing yourself is probably the best way to take care of yourself. Listening to our deeper self consistently means we are able to navigate our relationships better too.
It’s time to deeply accept that some must been done to keep ourselves sane and grounded, like daily practises. This important stuff is now much easier to integrate and stick to, and moreover we are being shown that they are now absolutely necessary if we really want to navigate the inevitable emotional waves of life.
Saturn in Capricorn can be a time where we will be learning more through challenges and lessons. This is so we can put into place some fundamental structures and systems that support what we want to accomplish this year. It’s about getting serious, and sometimes these lessons are necessary to just ‘get’ what we’ve been trying to integrate for years.
Learning to journey back to the inner self when faced with challenges, rather than splitting off, polarising, avoiding, escaping reality is what’s necessary. The reality is our inner world, everything emanates from that place.
Mars is still conjunct Jupiter bringing us the inspiration to fight for whatever it is we believe is right, this helps us move forward. On the other hand, Mars is also quincunx Uranus, making it more challenging as the messages, feedback and signals we are receiving back doesn’t fit with the moving forward. This is causing a degree of uncertainty and hestitation.
Maybe this arises as a sense of the past impeding on the present, reminding us of how things never work out how we plan or like. Or a tiredness, in that there are no guarantees. This can be therefore an indecisive time, where we can’t exactly move forward but neither do we feel like we want to waste the opportunity of getting things accomplished either. It’s again about coming back to your values, beliefs systems, motivations, so you ascertain what is actually driving you, which part? Is it your Divine will, or your ego will?
Uranus is forming a square to the New Moon and Venus, making it possible for last minute disruptions, distractions or changing circumstances. Uranus is within a wide square to Pluto again. Uranus invites us to gain some objectivity and perspective of all that we have been learning and integrating, to stay a little emotionally detached and trust the process of things.
This is an interesting combination of forward motion, mixed with Saturn apprehensive and reservation. We are learning to listen to our inner Saturn and how it wants to guide us, in a form of really being sure we are expending energies in the correct direction and at the right time. It’s really a very new kind of energy to get used to.
Saturn is teaching us to honour time by not wasting it through procrastination or pointless projects that are not truly in alignment with our soul’s calling. Mars sextiles this New Moon helping us take action, but we just need to be truly in contact with ourselves.
Venus ingresses into detached Aquarius on 18th January bringing a focus on group interactions and friendship. We might connect more with our partners’ as friends on the journey, rather than lovers. The Sun and Venus are still travelling very close together, and the Sun also shortly moves into Aquarius on 20th January.
This continues the themes of emotional coolness and detachment through Aquarius, which began with Saturn moving into Capricorn. Last year’s challenging emotional energy in relationships has now the opportunity for more perspective.
If decisions were difficult last year, there’s now space for decisions with a large dose of perspective and objectivity. The emotional space just wasn’t available for us last year. In a similar vein, if relationships were difficult due to big emotions, these should now quieten down and perhaps relationships can begin the repair and healing process. Either way, take your time to tune into the different energies and keep yourself grounded so you can accurately navigate it.
