We have a New Moon in Leo on 1st August at 3.11 am GMT at 8 degrees. There’s a high concentration of Leo energy at this time, with all the personal planets Venus, Mars, Sun and Moon in Leo encouraging us to be creative and playful, and express our love.
Leo time is a time of shining, showing off our confidence and brilliance yet from a pure, childlike place; from the heart chakra. Leo is the lion, bringing bold leadership, but lots of play too.
But we might need to watch our egos. With Mars in Leo, the opportunity to be thin skinned and over dramatic and sensitive to insult is strong. Yet also the tendency to be over zealous and confident from a more limited ego place.
The perfect anecdote is laughter; it will elevate, and bring in some of that playful, light-hearted Leo energy, keeping us from taking things too seriously or too personally. Stoke the fires of this Lioness spirit.
This is a full steam ahead New Moon, why? Because Mercury goes direct right at this New Moon. The combination of Mercury in Cancer which is water, and all this Leo energy creates a lot of steam. This is particularly true on 1st when the Moon also meets up with Mars, turning the dial up a notch.
What this means is that finally we get the go ahead. It is an action-orientated New Moon.
This also means the build up of ideas and all the decisions you have been working with for all of July can finally start moving forward. The trick is to manage the emotions, and the fire of impatience. We might want things sooner than we can get them
There’s a sense of boldness, of heartfelt expression, that goes along with Leo. This is a month to express your love and also receive the love coming back, particular mid month. It’s a time to cultivate your confidence from a heart space.
While Jupiter is still retrograde, it’s soon to turn direct, when Mercury re-enters Leo in fact on 11th. So it’s working with all this energy in Leo, helping expand our creative energy, hopes and supporting us to see the bigger, broader perspective.
In the not too distant future he will be moving into Capricorn, which has a very different focus, more practical and earthy. So this the perfect opportunity to engage with all that higher perspective and the broader vision of Jupiter in Sagittarius.
It’s the ideal time for a trip to a distant land. We can have so much more fun when Jupiter is making positive engagements with Leo – perhaps even a little romance.
For sure, August is a month of romance. With the Venus-Sun conjunction from 13th through to the 18th, although we should be feeling it all month, it’s the perfect time to put emphasis on love and playing.
Children should also be top of the agenda as they can help open our hearts and express ourselves more creatively.
By 24th, all that Leo energy is over though, so make the most of it! Then the focus shifts to Virgo, and there’s a strong difference between Leo and Virgo.
Leo is a fire sign, its the fixed modality, it’s beautiful on its own and Virgo earth is more practical and is the least earthy as it’s ruled by Mercury which is communication and logical, practical thought.
Mercury re-enters Leo on 11th and squares Uranus on 16th, so this excitement and desire for new and different and the unconventionality of our thought processes is important mid month.
Uranus stations retrograde on 12th and will be so until 10th January 2020. This slows down the anarchy in our lives and helps us work on integrating the change at a deeper, more internal level.
One additional thought, with Venus trine Chiron at this New Moon, there’s a lot of energy for forgiveness. This can also feel uplighting and heart-warming. August might be a month to express that forgiveness, or take steps towards winning back someone’s heart.
Slightly after this New Moon, Venus comes into a square with Uranus. This might feel bit edgy in our relationships, taking away our capacity to relax, since this energy is pushing us to stir things up, and be a little different.
It might support the boldness though, and our expression and openness. It might help us take leaps of faith. Whether we act upon these feelings or not, doesn’t really matter, they are all encouraging more freedom and movement away from limiting life circumstances.
Sometimes it’s important to first create the internal creative space before we can generate moves on an external level. Perhaps we need the first half of August to build up our courage to finally make the next leap of faith in our lives. There is certainly an emphasis on bold steps.
Either way, there are few outer planets obstructing our path, the outer planets do not make any major aspects to inner planets clustered in Leo this month. There are minor inconjunct patterns with Neptune and Pluto, which ask for some adjustment, but these do not hold the same tension of the oppositions we experienced through most of July.
So we should feel a reprieve and feel like we can get a little traction on steps forward and the direction to take things.
