We have a New Moon Solar Eclipse in Libra on 2nd October 2024 at 18:46 GMT.
This Libra New Moon begins a new 4-week cycle, guided by it’s ruler Venus, yet unlike a typical New Moon which influences events for a few weeks, a Solar Eclipse extends its effects for several months, is much deeper and more transformative.
At first glance, Venus as the ruler of Libra, beckons us to enter into the domain of relationships, love and desire. She asks; what do we long and desire for? What makes us hesitate in the face of intimacy? This eclipse is opening up a deep exploration of our are entire relationship with merging and separation, belonging and isolation, embracing and rejection, together/otherness and autonomy.
It’s time to strengthen relationships and invite more beauty into life. But it also points to where balance may be lacking in relationships. And as an air sign, Libra teaches us that love and relationships are shaped by our choices or indecision.
Being a Cardinal sign, Libra encourages us to seek out people and experiences that act as mirrors, offering deeper insights into ourselves. However, these mirrors can also reveal unresolved issues that are painful to confront. We are currently in a phase of cleaning up old business, as Pluto’s final months in Capricorn coincide with eclipse season, amplifying themes of closure and transformation.
The powerful feminine mythic figures of Ceres and Black Moon Lilith are tightly connected to this Solar Eclipse. Black Moon Lilith is especially potent, being exactly aligned with the degree of the eclipse in Libra. Venus forms a supportive sextile to Ceres in Capricorn, and Ceres forms a square aspect to the eclipse and nodes.
This adds many layers of complexity, but despite this the Solar Eclipse carries clear, intentional energy, highlighting deep transformative forces within the feminine realms. If you have planets or key points between 6-12 degrees, the eclipse will have a more profound personal impact.
As Venus is closely tied to the earth’s resources, she influences not only our personal talents but also the lesser accessed spiritual resources. Her governance goes even beyond love, desire, beauty, and pleasure guiding us cultivate our greatest resource within – our connection to the inner, often abandoned Divine Feminine.
It is this divine resource which aligns us with the universal flow of abundance, which Venus is so famous for. Through the realm of relationships, sensory, sexual experiences, and the appreciation of beauty, Venus teaches us to balance the relationship between the personal and transpersonal Venus. This balance is the ultimate path toward true abundance, which is a bridging of the material, physical and spiritual worlds.
The Venus-focused Libra New Moon turns our attention toward balance and relationships, showing us how every relationship interaction mirrors broader, expansive themes that transcend the personal realm.
As with all eclipses, this one signals new beginnings and the departure of the old. In its wake, certain relationships may need to fall away to create space for new, more aligned connections to emerge.
Libra is all about otherness in order to further understand ourselves, but in the otherness we get lost. Our projections, pain, unfulfilled desires and longings, deepest disconnection and separation patterns, all show up in Libra. We are now challenged to dig deep and penetrate the heart of all of this to see the truth of the original sacred wound. It is from this space that we become fulfilled again.
On a global scale, the highlighted Aries-Libra nodal axis posits a shift toward individual empowerment and breaking free of detrimental relationships patterns such as co-dependency, victim/villain and inequality among others. This astrological cycle urges us to reassess how we find balance between our autonomous nature and our interconnectedness. In other words: what exactly do we desire, beyond all of the enmeshment and entanglement?
As this internal struggle plays out externally on the world stage, we are seeing a growing emphasis on independent and decisive action that does not seek any approval. Diplomacy and peacebuilding is deprioritised in favour of self-determination and autonomy, even at the level of nations.
The bold energy of Aries drives individuals, societies, and nations to act assertively, sometimes even recklessly, often without considering the broader consequences. Additionally, it’s important to recognise that hidden, ulterior motives may influence those in power, potentially involving the deliberate controlled demolition of societal structures (orchestrated by those in control) to make room for the ‘next stage’.
These rapid changes, conflicts, and disruptions, where self-interest overshadows any collective wellbeing, in particular of those most vulnerable in our world – the children. The goal and result is always chaos—such caused by war and unchecked individualism.
Of course all of this may eventually be used to justify the creation of a more unified system or dare I say it, even a new world order. As Aries’ individualism’s extremes become increasingly apparent, society will yearn for a return to stability, structure, and unification.
It’s likely all this excessive Aries energy will be a catalyst to create a global system. A counterbalance that prioritises unity, cooperation, and global governance. Any new collective vision, which claims to balance individual freedom with collective responsibility, should be approached with caution and vigilance.
Shifts are not confined to political structures; it extends into all stratums of society. Psychological thrillers like Inconceivable and When The Bough Breaks depict these ‘evolving dynamics’, getting us warmed up to their future vision. In both these films, surrogates as portrayed as villains, overlooking the real trauma and exploitation they often endure. These narratives avoid mirroring the darker realities of the surrogacy industry, where vulnerable women are often exploited.
A particularly extreme example is The Handmaid’s Tale, which portrays women as reproductive vessels, with their children taken at birth. This disturbing depiction reflects the harsh realities faced by many surrogates today, highlighting the emotional and physical exploitation that can occur in surrogacy. The media often overlooks these injustices, reinforcing instead problematic narratives about surrogacy and class.
The commodification of human life through surrogacy raises serious ethical questions. As surrogacy becomes more widespread, we must critically assess the moral implications, especially concerning disadvantaged women and their babies. This reflection is essential to understanding the broader societal impact of fertility practices and how they perpetuate deeper class inequalities. The top 1% and the rest of us borders on being a forbidden, taboo topic.
This is where Lilith and Ceres step in. These themes of power, autonomy, nurturing, and exploitation are closely bound up with these mythic figures. At this eclipse, and over the forthcoming months, their activation is to reveal the intersection between individual empowerment and ‘true’ collective responsibility. As we navigate this shifting landscape, they remind us to reflect on both personal and societal dimensions of autonomy, care, and ethics.
This cycle encourages us to resolve lingering emotional ties, particularly those between mothers and daughters, and to reflect on how we seek nourishment—whether physical, emotional, or spiritual. It is a time to examine our connection to the Divine feminine, our relationship with the earth, and the love inherent within both, finding opportunities to heal, release, and restore balance.
Feminine power is expressed through Lilith, Ceres and Venus each representing distinct aspects of femininity. The exact square aspect between Ceres and Lilith bring somewhat conflicting (but integrable) mythic and collective dimensions to the surface, suggesting that the shifts taking place in our personal lives are woven into a larger cosmic narrative. We are being encouraged to discover our shared ground, find what unites us and see where this wisdom can take things.
Lilith’s connection to the Earth element highlights the importance of grounding raw, primal, untamed power in practical ways, confronting our material desires and fears. Lilith is our repressed shadowy desires and complexities, whereby Venus is all that is accepted by the mainstream. The key is to embrace everything within that the other might reject – especially the rawer aspects of feminine power.
The themes of withdrawal, even isolation, to find our own path, inner truth and light becomes central with Lilith; she withdraws from societal norms, external influences and validation. Lilith was actually cast out, and the message is if we embrace this experience, the silence and solitude, we only gain agency.
Ceres represents the Earth’s nurturing and fertility, with her myth emphasising life’s cycles of loss and renewal. Like Lilith, she also withdraws, for in winter in order for the spring to arise. She underscores the complexities of giving and receiving nourishment, especially in motherhood and with the fertility journey. Ceres asks how we sustain life and navigate cycles of growth and loss.
Lilith champions defiance and freedom, independence, autonomy, and personal boundaries, pushing against traditional power dynamics, focusing on personal power and self-determination, challenging dependency on external sources.
Venus embodies love, beauty, and earthy sensuality, highlighting feminine creativity, particularly in relationships and personal fulfilment. In relationships, Venus governs love, attraction, and harmony but stresses the importance of self-worth, of being someone of embodied substance, true to your own deepest and highest values.
As the ruler of this New Moon, Venus acts as the bridge between all Venusian themes, governing both Taurus and Libra. In Taurus, Venus focuses on physical comfort, inner resources, and sensuality, while in Libra, she emphasises social harmony and balance. This dual rulership reveals how material resources and relational harmony are inextricably connected.
On the surface, the contrast between Ceres and Lilith is striking: Ceres finds strength in nurturing and accepting life’s cycles, while Lilith insists on autonomy and rejects being controlled. Together though, Ceres and Lilith both explore deep, feminine, complex themes of stepping away from the external world, caregiving and cyclical renewal.
We step away from the external world to tend to our grief, for self-reflection, to remember our autonomy, to know our own truth or just to fully honour the patience and stillness essential to new life and growth.
The trick under a Libra-Lilith New Moon is to collaborate with others without losing our individuality and truth, without dropping into all the fear that our wounds bind us to, and resisting intimacy entirely. If we can’t be intimate with others, it’s just not the time, but at least we can cultivate intimacy with ourselves.
This eclipse marks a profound awakening for the marginalised feminine, urging us all to embrace a new form of leadership—one that nurtures, accepts and honours cycles, grows through patience and stillness, and is dedicated to balancing personal desires with our collective responsibilities to each other.
